This blog is about Internet Marketing Enhanced By Knowledge Management.
What does that mean? And what is knowledge management anyway?
I say a bit more about that on my the About Alex Goodall page, but what it means in terms of this blog is that I like to focus on:
- Organizing and structuring information - creating models and categories to help understand and explain things better
- Strategy and planning in internet marketing (the "big picture")
- The psychology, motivations and world-views of internet marketers
- The importance of and approaches to collaboration and sharing of knowledge
- Nitty-gritty helpful tips and explanations (the "detail") - but organized in a systematic way
A very specific example of how I've applied knowledge management to internet marketing is my first product in this field - the Internet Marketing Index Mind Map.
Another way of describing what I write about in this blog is this:
- Anything I find interesting.
Blasphemy!
I know that some teachers of good blogging practice tells us to write what our audience wants to read - but if everyone is doing that, all blogs about internet marketing will contain the same content. I see little point in just replicating that content with slight variations. (If I were simply after search engine rankings, that would be a valid strategy, but I'm not.)
So I write about what I find interesting, and usually with a knowledge management angle where that adds value.
- Anything I find helpful.
I'm learning all the time. We all are. When I figure something out, I like to record what I've learned for future reference. This might be via links to resources that I've found helpful, or it might be my own re-organizing of the material (using my knowledge management skills).
When I do that, I record the results on my blog so I can find it again easily, and so my readers can find it when they need it.
Finally, the organization of the content of this blog largely reflects the structure of the Internet Marketing Index Mind Map. In due course, I may connect up the topics in the Mind Map to the relevant tags in the blog. We'll see how that pans out.
But this all a bit theoretical.
If you're reading this in the early days of this blog, it might help you
decide whether or not to subscribe.
But if there are lots of posts on the blog, your best bet is to look at them and
decide if what I write is interesting and/or useful to you.
If it is - subscribe.
If it isn't, thanks for reading this far anyway!
