About Alex Goodall
Hello.
My name is Alex Goodall, the author of the Internet Marketing Quiddity blog.
I'm reluctant to categorize myself as "this" or "that": I'm never quite comfortable with any such classification. But if you were to hold a gun to my head and force me to come up with a category (or if I have to fill in a form, which is almost as unpleasant), I would say I'm an expert/student in the field of Knowledge Management. I've been in this field since the term was first invented in the mid 1980s.
It's not easy to explain what knowledge management is because it has no clearly-defined boundaries. If you think about it in terms of "anything to do with creating, organizing and using knowledge, both individually and collectively" you'll see what I mean.
This is my personal list of topics knowledge management topics that I find fascinating:
- Organizing and structuring information, knowledge and concepts to make it/them easier to access, understand and use: I do this a lot, and do it exceptionally well!
- Mastery, learning and personal development/transformation in any area of life (from novice to journeyman to expert to master)
- How individuals make sense of and meaning in the world
- How people communicate, relate to and understand each other
- How technology can help in all the above
I first entered the world of internet marketing many years ago, but like so many people, I dabbled in an unfocussed way for far too long. Eventually, I applied what I knew best - knowledge management - to internet marketing, and created a very comprehensive organizational structure for the internet marketing domain. The first application of that idea is the Internet Marketing Index Mind Map.
I have learned many lessons from my years of wandering in the internet marketing wilderness and try to help others avoid that fate, both through this blog and via my products related to Internet Marketing Strategy & Planning.
And finally...
I live in one of the finest cities in the world - Oxford, UK.
I'm married to a lovely lady whose mother was born in the most exciting country in the world - China.
And (along with every other father of three children), I have the greatest three kids in the world.
I try not to complain too much.
